When your adventure begins, you are a blank slate – no name, no money and no friends. That will soon change, though, as you begin your new life in a town that seems to have been custom-made for you.
Welcome Aboard!
Your new life starts off in the back of a taxi driven by a tortoise named Kapp’n. He will ask you a slew of questions as you travel to your new town. The first thing he asks for is the correct day, time and month.
The game is based in real time, so it is important to get this set up correctly. Kapp’n will then ask you a series of questions that may not seem very relevant, but will in fact determine your appearance, your gender and what kind of town you live – so be sure to answer carefully.
In the original Animal Crossing, Kapp’n took his passengers across the water in a boat, but now he has traded in his paddle for a gas pedal.
Fan of the Rain?
Kapp’n will ask if you are sick of the rainy weather yet – your answer will determine your eye colour and eye shape.
The Name Game
Next, Kapp’n will ask for your name. You will have to live with this name for the rest of your Animal Crossing life, so don’t pick one that you will regret! After you tell him your name, he will give you one last chance to change it before saving it.
Burly or Cute?
Kapp’n will ask whether you are burly or cute. This will decide whether you are a boy (burly) or a girl (cute).
Gender Confusion?
You will get one last chance to confirm your gender. Watch what happens if you change your mind – you will practically give poor Kapp’n a heart attack!
Name That Town
Next you will be asked to name your town. Again, be sure it is something you can live with, because you won’t be able to change it later on.
Are You a Beach Bum?
Kapp’n will ask you what your favourite part of town is – the beach, town hall, shopping, the border or the museum. Your answer will determine where you live.
Got Money for the Fare?
Did you forget to bring cab fare? Don’t worry – Kapp’n is pretty easy-going and might let it slide if you answer a few more questions.
How Do I Look?
A lot of factors can alter your appearance. If you gave Kapp’n mixed signals about your gender, you end up as a boy with girlish eyes or vice versa. Or if you answered all the questions rudely, you might end up with a permanent scowl. There are dozens of possible outcomes depending on how you handled your conversation with Kapp’n.
The Town Hall
After your long conversation with Kapp’n, you will finally arrive in town. Your first stop is the town hall, where you will sort out your living arrangements. Talk to Pelly – she will ask if you need any help. If you let her know that you have just moved in, she will tell you how Tom Nook has been waiting for your arrival and that there is a modest home waiting for you to move into. She will even give you a town map that shows the location of your new home – take a stroll across town and check it out!
